Need a check up and clean? Maybe you’ve been putting it off due to cost. You’re not alone. Data from the Australian Dental Association shows that two-thirds of Aussies avoid dental care due to cost.
But here’s the thing…having a regular check up and clean is the best way to keep your oral health in check, spot problems early and stop them from becoming a bigger (and more costly) problem in the future.
Nerves got the better of you? Or perhaps your little one isn’t a big fan of the dentist. We understand. Dental fear is completely normal. That’s why we’ve created our Chelsea Heights dental clinic, a soothing space where we can provide treatments with the gentlest of care.
Still wondering if a check up and clean is *really* necessary. Maybe you’re struggling to squeeze an appointment into your schedule. Here’s everything you need to know about dental check up and clean cost, what’s included and why it’s important.
According to Canstar, a dental clean and check up in Australia can cost up to $309. However, the fees can vary from practice to practice and even depending on which state you live. Wondering ‘how much is a dental check up and clean at Hello Dental’? A dentist check up and clean costs $280 for adults and $150 for kids.
Here’s what to expect, apart from feeling completely at ease, when you have a professional dental clean and check up here at Hello Dental.
Step 1: Dental consult
First, we’ll have a chat to get to know you. We’ll then do a full dental examination. This includes a thorough check of your teeth, mouth and gums to assess your overall oral health. If it’s your first visit, we may take some small dental x-rays to help us track your teeth over time and check for underlying issues. We’ll let you know if these are needed. It’s your choice.
Dental visits can be a BIG DEAL for kids. Thanks to our child-friendly vibes and onsite cubby-house clinic, your child will be nagging you to book their next dental adventure.
Step 2: Scale and polish
Sit back and relax while we do a thorough dental clean and polish. This gently removes plaque and tartar, as well as stains that everyday toothbrushing can’t budge. We use the latest technology to ensure soft but effective clean for good oral health.
We know that weird sounds and curious-looking tools can make little ones nervous. That’s why we have a dedicated children’s dentist. To turn weird into wonderful and curious into “soo cool”!
Step 3: Fluoride application
We’ll finish off with a fluoride treatment to help strengthen your tooth enamel and prevent decay. If needed, we’ll give you a personalised dental plan outlining the treatment steps needed to improve your oral health. Finally, you can walk away with that dentist-fresh feeling! (Who doesn’t love that ‘oh-so-clean’ feel?)
We know your time is precious. However, it’s important you get a deep cleaning—with no tooth going unchecked. Allow 60 minutes for your first visit with us. After that, your checks up and clean should take around 30 minutes.
With no downtime needed, you can jump straight back into your day. TIP: It’s best to wait 30 minutes after your fluoride treatment before eating or drinking. Just so that the fluoride can work its magic!
Aside from the sparkly smile and the dentist-fresh feeling, there are a whole range of reasons why regular dental check ups are a must for you and your littlies, such as:
A regular dental checkup and clean is the most effective way to maintain good oral health and overall wellbeing. (And, potentially, avoid a dental emergency down the line.) By examining your mouth, dentists can identify early signs of dental issues like tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer.
A professional teeth cleaning removes plaque from the tooth surfaces and below the gum line. This is an important preventative measure against oral health problems, like gum disease. Plus, during your check up you can discuss any oral health concerns you might have. Your dentist will explore any issues and can treat them promptly—before they turn into an expensive dental problem.
Yes, it’s true — regular dental check ups can save you money in the long term. As we mentioned earlier, two-thirds of Australians put off dental services due to cost. The problem is leaving dental issues, like tooth decay, untreated can lead to a more serious and costly treatment (hello, root canal!)
Catching dental problems early, on the other hand, means you can get it fixed…pronto. The takehome? If you want a beautiful, healthy smile that won’t break the bank—remember that prevention is ALWAYS better (and less costly) than cure.
There’s a growing body of research showing that our oral health and our overall health are closely linked. Poor oral health can increase the risk for several health issues. This includes diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.
The main culprits are tooth decay and gum disease. These can cause inflammation which can spread to other parts of the body causing disease and poor health. The good news is that with a regular dental check up and clean, you can keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape and boost your overall health. Win-win!
If you have ongoing dental problems or a chronic health issue, your dentist may recommend you visit more regularly. However, healthy adults should visit their dentist every six months.
We recommend the same for little ones. Your child’s first dental visit should be just after their first birthday. Visits should continue every six months (just like adults) to maintain great dental health.
Most dental care is not covered by Medicare. The exception to this is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). Eligible families can get up to $1,095* for selected kids’ dental services. This includes dental check ups.
If cost has been the barrier between you and a sparkling smile, we offer a range of flexible finance options. So you can get the dental care and attention you deserve now and pay for it in easy, affordable instalments. Alternatively some private health insurance policies include dental care in their extras. Check your policy to find out if you’re covered.
Haven’t had a dental check-up and clean in a while? There’s no judgement here. Simply book your appointment online now.
